Proposition 65

PROPOSITION 65 WARNING for California Residents

Background

In 1986, the State of California adopted the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, Proposition 65 (Prop 65), which applies not only to water, but also to consumer goods sold in California.

This California law requires businesses to provide a warning label on products that contain any of hundreds of chemicals, even when these chemicals are found in amounts that are exceedingly below the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and other internationally recognized standards for dietary supplements. Such warnings are commonly seen in California on consumer products, restaurants, amusement parks, and many other locations.

Organic and Natural Substances

Many of the substances on the Prop 65 list are naturally occurring in the environment or are now present in the environment through increased industrial activity. Some of these substances may accumulate in varying amounts, at different times, in different plants or animals. Many products, including cosmetics, supplements and foods are produced using ingredients from the natural environment and that is why, it is possible that some of the substances on the list may from time to time be present in these natural products.
